Cowgirls Blank McNeese State, 4-0

McCOMB, Miss., – The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis squad bounced back in a nice way Friday night in their second match down in Mississippi. The Cowgirls handed McNeese State its first loss of the season in the matchup, winning 4-0.

Wyoming (2-5) opened up by securing the doubles point, winning at the No. 1 and 3 spots. At the first position, Ana Fernandez and Sophie Zehender picked up a 6-2 victory. The Cowgirls locked up the doubles with a quick 6-1 win at No. 3 as the tandem of Noesjka Brink and Nikol Dobrilova were victorious.

In singles play, UW won the first three completed matches, securing the shutout victory. At No. 2 singles, Zehender won with a straight-sets victory over Heta Nuutinen, 6-3 and 6-1. Dobrilova, meanwhile, won at the fourth spot, 6-1 and 6-2 over Natalia Ballo. Violetta Borodina rounded-out the wins for the Cowgirls, as she also won in straight sets, taking a 6-2 and 6-4 win at the No. 5 singles’ spot.

The Cowgirls end their trip down to Mississippi Saturday with an 11 a.m., MT contest against Southeastern Louisiana.
