LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — A construction company is investigating what caused part of a structure at Laramie High School to give way, dropping two construction workers and several tons of steel 40 feet below.

The men were lifting steel beams into place when the structure they were standing on yielded beneath them. Workers used construction equipment to free one man who was pinned beneath the steel.

Fire Department Company Officer Kevin Lam says both were transported to the hospital to have fractures and internal injuries treated. Their condition is unknown.

A statement from Haselden Construction says on-site safety protocols were met and the men were wearing protective equipment when the accident happened.
