Jade Blackwell, from Rapid City, South Dakota, was the lucky recipient of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association’s 2014 Dodge Truck award.

The drawing was held at the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association’s national office the morning of April 19th. The NIRA’s Commissioner, Roger Walters, and the entire national office staff witnessed the drawing.

Jade Blackwell is a rough stock rider for Gillette College, in Gillette, Wyoming, in the Central Rocky Mountain Region. Blackwell is an agriculture science major.

Commissioner Walters delivered the good news to Blackwell. Blackwell’s initial response was, “Is this a joke? That is so cool, sweet! Thank you, sir, thank you, sir!” Blackwell said he recognized the caller identification as a Washington number, so he did have hope that it wasn’t a joke. After a call to his rodeo coach, and two additional to the NIRA Commissioner, Blackwell was convinced.

Blackwell will pick up his new Ram 2500 truck during the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming. Blackwell will also be competing at the CNFR in the saddle bronc riding, as he is leading his region in that event. Blackwell said, “It would be nice to leave Casper with a truck and a champion saddle!”.

The truck presentation will take place in the arena on Saturday, June 21st at the Casper Events Center.
