Cheyenne Fire Rescue says no deaths or human injuries were recorded in a two-house fire Wednesday afternoon in the 100 Block of  Longs Peak Drive.

A dog was safely removed from one of the homes and was taken to a local veterinary office for treatment. According to the release, firefighters were called out to the fire at 12;18 p.m. with the first engine arriving on the scene at 12:23 p.m.

Firefighters found two homes on fire. Both homes were two-story structures with heavy smoke and flames coming from both the exterior and interior of both.

Limited access, strong winds, heavy smoke and a gas leak complicated efforts to fight the fire, but firefighters declared the fire under control at 2:15 p.m.

Parts of Longs Peak Drive and Killarney Drive were closed during the fire, and firefighters remained on the scene through the night due to building collapse and smoldering materials. The release also says:

Assisting Cheyenne Fire Rescue was Laramie County Combined Communication Center, Cheyenne Police Department, Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, Laramie County Fire District # 1, Laramie County Fire Authority, F.E. Warren Fire Department, Black Hill Energy, American Medical Response, and the Red Cross.

The dollar amount damage is unknown as this time and cause of the fire is under investigation.
