Casper native and Natrona County High school grad Lauren Taubert took 8th place in the heptathlon at the NCAA Track & Field Championships over the weekend in Austin, Texas competing for Kansas State University. There are 7 events in the heptathlon and Taubert rang up 5793 points and that's a personal best. She PR'd in the 800 meter race with a time of 2.10.94 and that helped her earn All-American status. She ended up taking 3rd in the 800 with a 13th place finish in the javelin and a 20th place finish in the long jump on the final day of competition.The junior was making her first appearance at the NCAA Championships and was the 2016 Gatorade Athlete of the Year while competing at Natrona. She was a 3 time state champion in the 300 hurdles and the high jump. Taubert also won a state championship in the 100 hurdles and owns 11 NCHS records in track.
