UPDATE: Casper Police have added charges to Levar Thompson for aggravated robbery regarding the Wyoming Hot Wings stick up. That information came from the Department late Monday afternoon.

=====================================================

Casper police over the weekend arrested a man for allegedly using an airsoft gun to rob a convenience store on New Year's Eve.

Levar Ellis Thompson, 40, was booked into jail on a recommended charge of aggravated robbery, as well as failure to register as a sex offender. He will likely make his initial appearance in Natrona County Circuit Court at 2 p.m. Monday.

Court documents indicate Thompson may also be tied to the robbery of Wyoming Hot Wings.

The arrest stems from a Dec. 31 incident in which a black male entered the Big D on East 12th Street, pulled out a gun and robbed the clerk at gunpoint.

According to court documents, surveillance footage shows the suspect brandishing a black pistol, which looked like a Beretta, to the clerk, with the clerk then placing an unknown amount of money into the suspect's white mesh laundry bag.

Using tips from Crimestoppers, a detective compiled a list of people who matched the description of the suspect. Thompson was identified as a suspect.

The detective then interviewed a citizen who viewed a clip of surveillance video which showed the Wyoming Hot Wings robbery. The video clip had been released by police and was posted online by local media.

The citizen said he was certain it was Thompson who had robbed Wyoming Hot Wings. Thompson had worked for the citizen for a time, and had allegedly burglarized the citizen's home in Colorado.

The citizen provided investigators with a photo of Thompson, and a detective corroborated that photo with pictures of Thompson from the police computer-aided dispatch system. The detective then tried to contact Thompson, but found Thompson no longer lived at the address listed in the system.

About 10 tips from Crimestoppers had named "Ellis" as the suspect of the robbery, according to the affidavit.

On Sunday, the detective approached Thompson as Thompson was leaving the Ramkota. Thompson was reportedly trying to drive away from the hotel in a silver Chevrolet passenger car with Colorado license plates. Thompson was taken to the Casper Police Department.

The person who had rented the Chevrolet gave police permission to search the vehicle and remove Thompson's property, which was inside the car.

A search of the car turned up a white mesh laundry bag, which contained a black mask, a black semi-automatic airsoft gun that looked "identical" to a Beretta, and clothing similar to that worn by the suspect seen in surveillance video.
