Casper Authorities Make Arrest, Seek Victims in String of Burglaries
Natrona County Sheriff's deputies on Monday arrested a man suspected of breaking into camp trailers in Bar Nunn and the City of Casper, and now investigators are hoping more victims will come forward to claim property that was reportedly stolen.
The sheriff's office plans to file two burglary charges against 27-year-old Brandon M. Pederson of Casper within the next 48 hours, according to Sgt. Aaron Shatto.
That would make Pederson a repeat offender. He was sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to one count of burglary in connection with 14 separate car burglaries reported in the Bar Nunn area in March 2015.
"We need the public's help so we can identify some of these other items we've recovered," Shatto told reporters Tuesday morning.
Shatto estimates that thousands of dollars worth of tools and firearms were recovered following Pederson's arrest and the execution of a search warrant.
Investigators were able to locate additional victims by using identifying information on the allegedly stolen property, but they believe some of the recovered property belongs to people who have not come forward to report it stolen.
Shatto urges Natrona County residents to check their camp trailers and homes for missing items. Anyone who finds things are missing can call the Casper Police Department at 235-8278.
The investigation has so far revealed two burglaries in the Bar Nunn area, Shatto says. But Casper has seen about 12 burglaries, according to Police Sgt. Mike Ogden.
The alleged burglaries are not concentrated in one area of town, but are reportedly spread all over.
Shatto says the burglaries in Bar Nunn date back to roughly the beginning of the year. At this point, there's no telling how far back the Casper burglaries go.
Pederson was arrested around 3:15 p.m. Monday at a residence in Bar Nunn. He is being held on an out-of-county warrant.
Shatto says a mugshot may be released later.
The joint investigation between the Casper Police Department and the Natrona County Sheriff's Office continues.
