A Carpenter girl died in a one-vehicle rollover accident early Sunday, according to a news release from the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

Kiersten D. Larson, 17, was driving a sport utility vehicle eastbound on Interstate 80 about 19 miles east of Cheyenne, according to the news release from Patrol Sgt. David Wagener.

At 6 a.m., the vehicle veered off the north side of the highway. Larson overcorrected the SUV to the right, causing it to slide out of control across both lanes if the highway.

The SUV left the highway to the south into a ditch, then tripped and rolled.

Larson was not wearing her seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. She died at the scene.

The Highway Patrol is still investigating other possible contributing factors in this crash.

This marked the ninth highway fatality in Wyoming for 2016. There were 18 fatalities through March 9th in 2015.
