CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — State Rep. Dan Zwonitzer has withdrawn from the Wyoming secretary of state's race.

The Cheyenne Republican says he decided that he would rather seek re-election to the Wyoming Legislature than campaign for the statewide office.

Zwonitzer says that running for secretary of state also would complicate his involvement in a legislative committee that is overseeing parts of the plan to renovate the State Capitol.

Zwonitzer was one of five Republicans who had announced so far that they would campaign for the open secretary of state seat.

Those still in the race are former Wyoming Speaker of the House Ed Buchanan of Torrington, former Cheyenne lawmaker Pete Illoway, Cheyenne businessman Ed Murray, Rock Springs attorney Clark Stith and Wyoming Constitution Party Chairwoman Jennifer Young of Lingle.
