The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Casper Field Office has completed a recreation business plan that outlines changes to the existing fee structure on Muddy Mountain Environmental Education Area  and establishes expanded amenity fees at overnight facilities within Trapper’s Route Special Recreation Management Area.

The proposed changes for the Muddy Mountain EEA include removing day-use fees at developed sites and increasing the remaining fees. Camping fees will be increased from $5 to $7 for each overnight stay and extra vehicles will be increased from $2 to $3. The Muddy Mountain EEA is a popular recreation area for both day-use and overnight visits. The EEA is located approximately 20 miles south of Casper and has two existing campgrounds.

The expanded amenity fees being established for Trapper’s Route SRMA include a $10 fee for overnight camping and $5 fee for each additional vehicle. Trapper’s Route is located along the North Platte River between Casper and Alcova, Wyo. A day-use fee will not be charged. Trapper’s Route encompasses public lands adjoining the North Platte River in central Wyoming. This important recreation area spans 41 miles and encompasses over 3,000 acres of BLM- administered public lands.

All revenues collected will remain in the Casper Field Office for the enhancement of recreational opportunities for Trappers Route and Muddy Mountain.

BLM Casper Field Manager Joe Meyer said,

“The fees collected will be used to support sustainable recreation values, improve and expand existing facilities, provide for law enforcement presence, develop additional services and interpretative signs, and to protect unique and sensitive resources of this area,”

The Notice of Intent to collect fees on public lands will be published in the Federal Register for public review and comments. Comments can be mailed, hand-delivered, or faxed to BLM, Attn: Outdoor Recreation Planner, Casper Field Office, 2987 Prospector Drive, Casper, Wyoming 82601; fax: 307-261-7587.
