SHERIDAN, Wyo. (AP) — The fire danger on the Bighorn National Forest remains very high and fire restrictions are still in effect.

Curtis Rasmuson is fire manager on the Bighorn Forest. He says recent lightning caused six wildfires that required an aggressive response from fire crews to extinguish.

Three abandoned campfires also have ignited fires recently. One such fire burned about 12 acres and Rasmuson says suppressing it cost thousands of dollars.

Forest visitors should check fire restrictions posted on the forest's website: (http://www.fs.usda.gov/main/bighorn/home) or by calling or visiting a local office or visitor center.
