LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — A Wyoming sheriff says the deputy who shot and killed an unarmed Laramie man after a traffic stop will likely be taken off patrol work.

Albany County Sheriff's Cpl. Derek Colling remains on administrative leave following the death of 39-year-old Robbie Ramirez in early November.

A grand jury declined to bring involuntary manslaughter charges against Colling earlier this month.

Sheriff David O'Malley says Colling will likely be moved to an investigator position, noting that it's a lateral move and would not mean a pay raise.

Albany County for Proper Policing says in a statement that Colling returning to work "threatens the element of trust between officers and the community."

Relatives have said that Ramirez had schizoaffective disorder and feared police because of past interactions.
