The University of Wyoming men’s basketball team has earned a third-straight postseason berth for just the fifth time in program history, as the Cowboys accepted an invitation on Sunday to play in the College Basketball Invitational (CBI). UW will face Texas A&M on Wednesday at 6 p.m. MT in Reed Arena in College Station, Texas.
UW head coach Larry Shyatt said,
 
“We always look at a postseason invitation as a product of growth for this Wyoming program,These Cowboys and, in particular our two seniors Nathan [Sobey] and Jerron [Granberry], deserve another opportunity to continue to improve and play for a championship.”
 
The Pokes compiled aseason that included an 18-14 overall record and a 9-9 mark in Mountain West play for fifth in the conference standings. The finish was their highest in the MW since placing third in 2002-03, while their nine wins were their most since winning the conference title with 11 in 2001-02. Wyoming features one of the top defenses in the nation, allowing just 61.8 points per game for 18th in the NCAA.
 
Wyoming is making its fourth appearance in the 16-team CBI and third straight. The Pokes lost to Northeastern in the opening round in 2009, before advancing to the quarterfinals each of the last two seasons.This is Wyoming’s 26th appearance in a postseason men’s basketball tournament, including appearing in 14 NCAA tournaments, eight National Invitation Tournaments (NIT) and four CBIs. Shyatt has now guided Wyoming to the postseason in each of his four seasons at UW, including an appearance in the 1998 NIT versus Gonzaga.
 
One of the CBI’s eight First Round games will commence on Tuesday with the remaining seven First Round games being played on Wednesday. The Quarterfinal Round will take place on Monday, March 24 with the Semifinal Round games being played on Wednesday, March 26. The best-of-three Championship Series begins on Monday, March 31. Each game will be played at host schools.
