Trial Date Set in Death of Wyoming Toddler
GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) — A trial date has been set for a 21-year-old Wyoming man who is charged in the death of a 3-year-old boy who suffered severe brain injuries while in his care.
The trial for Joseph Nielsen of Gillette is scheduled to start on Sept. 18. Nielsen pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in September.
Prosecutors allege Nielsen caused brain injuries to Caiden Fedora on Aug. 6. The boy died a few days later at Children's Hospital in Aurora, Colorado.
Court records say Nielsen told investigators the boy jumped from a coffee table and fell over a plastic dollhouse. Doctors said the boy's injuries — including bruises, fractured ribs and a fractured jaw — were caused by a much greater force.
Nielsen remains jailed with his bail set at $750,000 cash.
