Sweetwater County authorities are looking into internet reports of dog fighting in the Rock Springs and Green River areas, according to a spokesman for the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office.

Dick Blust said the reports also claim there are sites where the carcasses of dead fighting dogs have allegedly been dumped. However, so far no such carcass sump sites have actually been found.

Local law enforcement agencies have not received any reports of dog fighting, beyond the social media claims, so whether the fights are actually happening or not remains in question at this point.

Sheriff Mike Lowell says if it is happening, he wants to put a stop to it and hold everyone involved accountable. He is asking anyone with information to contact the Sheriff's Office through the Combined Communications Center at [307] 875-1400.

Under Wyoming law, dog fighting is a felony, carrying a possible penalty of two years in prison, a $5,000 fine or both
