Suicidal Casper Man Charged With Police Interference
A Casper man was arrested after trying to attack police officers while begging them to kill him on Saturday afternoon, according to an affidavit filed with Natrona County Circuit Court.
Jose Luis Alvarez, 46, was taken into custody at his residence in the 4800 block of East Yellowstone Highway after his girlfriend called police to say he was suicidal, according to the affidavit.
He was charged with one count of "felony interference attempted bodily harm on a peace officer."
The case began at 3:07 p.m. when officers responded to the residence where the girlfriend said Alvarez had been on medication for an unidentified illness, that he had a knife threatening to kill himself, and probably would fight them. She also said there were two children in the residence.
An officer asked the girlfriend to get the children out of the residence.
Alvarez then approached the officers, carrying a knife in his hand, cursing them and daring them to kill him because "'I'm a cop killer,'" according to the affidavit.
As he was approaching an officer, Alvarez fell and the knife flew out of his hand.
Officers handcuffed him and sat him on a bench besides the mobile home, but he kept standing up.
Officers pushed him down and the table collapsed underneath him and he was able to kick one of them. They then placed him in the back of a patrol vehicle.
He continued to yell that he was a "cop killer" and would kill the officers. He kicked the caged area of the vehicle. Officers pulled him from the vehicle, hobbled his legs, put him back in the vehicle and took him to the Natrona County jail.
The girlfriend told officers that she and Alvarez had been in a dating relationship since 2012. They were drinking on Thursday night, and got into an argument Friday. She left the residence, later called Alvarez and returned to the residence when he said he intended to kill himself..
She entered the residence, found a knife and pieces of a starter pistol on a bed, and retrieved those items while saying he was going to kill himself.
While speaking with the officers, the children interjected during the conversation about Alvarez's behavior. One said he asked one of the children to shoot him in the mouth with the pistol.
