Moniz Declares Bid for Wyoming Senate
Representative Glenn Moniz (R-Albany) announced his candidacy for Wyoming Senate District 10 Tuesday afternoon.
“It is critical that Albany County have experienced representation as we move forward in these trying times,” said Moniz in a press release.
Senate President Phil Nicholas (R-Albany), who currently holds the seat, recently said he intends to leave the Wyoming Legislature when his term expires next year.
“I’d known he had an interest in it and I was excited that he wanted to pursue my seat,” said Nicholas. “It really makes it easier for me to exit knowing there’s experienced people coming behind me.”
Moniz, a Laramie native, has represented House District 46 since 2009. He ran unopposed in the 2012 Republican primary and took 56% of votes in the general election to defeat Democrat Kennedy Penn-O’Toole.
“Having folks like Glenn move from one house to the other ensures continuity,” said Nicholas. “He has great experience to carry over with him.”
Moniz is the chairman of Laramie Jubilee Days and a member of organizations such as Laramie Rotary, the Albany County Stock Growers Association and the University of Wyoming Cowboy Joe Club.
“With 26+ years in the fire service, 14 years running a successful business, and 8 years in the legislature I bring common sense, experience and leadership,” said the release from Moniz. “I want to take my life experiences to Cheyenne in order to represent the citizens of Albany County with the goal of securing their fair share.”
