The Wyoming Department of Education plans to release the names and salaries of every school district employee in the state in response to a state senator's request.

Republican Sen. Tom James, of Rock Springs, says he wants the list so he can better understand state budgeting.

James says he wants to see differences in pay between educators and administrators.

He says he filed similar requests with other state agencies and is “not just picking on education.”

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jillian Balow plans to honor the request but not without questioning it.

Balow says the list potentially puts the security and safety of educators at risk.
