ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. --- The federal government is preparing to offer more than 250 parcels of public land for oil and gas leasing in western Wyoming and is seeking public comment on the proposal.

The 252 parcels would be sold at auction next May. They include 45 parcels under the U.S. Bureau of Land Management's Kemmerer Field Office, 67 under the Rawlins Field Office and 140 under the Rock Springs Field Office.

The BLM says nine parcels are in areas designated as unavailable for oil and gas leasing under federal resource management plans.

The BLM says it is encouraging people to identify particular issues, concerns and ideas not covered in a draft environmental assessment for the upcoming lease sale.

The draft assessment is available online at http://on.doi.gov/uGxtaM .
