2026 Wyoming High School Boys Swimming and Diving State Championships Preview
The 2026 Wyoming High School Boys’ Swimming and Diving State Championships are in Cheyenne over the next three days. Laramie in Class 4A and Lander in Class are the defending team champions. WyoPreps looks at the two classifications and the top contenders in every event, plus which teams we think will be vying for the team titles at the Cheyenne East High School Aquatics Facility.
WYOMING HIGH SCHOOL BOYS SWIMMING & DIVING STATE CHAMPIONSHIP BREAKDOWN 2026
Class 4A competes on Thursday and Friday. Laramie has won the last eight state championships, but the Plainsmen are not the favorites this year. That role falls to Cheyenne Central. The Indians seek their first boys’ state crown since 2013. On their heels is the 4A West Conference champion Riverton. The Wolverines have never won a swimming state title, boys or girls. Laramie and Evanston are the other top challengers in the team race.
Four individuals stand out among the 4A field. Swimmers Ben Forsythe from Sheridan, Cy Gallion and Brady Hunt of Campbell County, plus diver Brady Benne from Cheyenne Central.
Forsythe is a two-time defending champ in the 50 Free and 100 Breaststroke races. He’s already an automatic All-American in the 50 Free after a 20.37-second time at the 4A East Conference Championship swim meet two weeks ago. He also won the 100 Free at the conference meet.
Gallion is the defending champ in the 200 IM and two-time defending champ in the 500 Free. Hunt won the 100 Butterfly last year and has won the last two 100 Backstroke races at the state championships. Wherever those two swim, they will be favored.
Benne is a two-time defending champ on the diving board. His top scores are approaching a new state record, and Brady is only a junior.
Other contenders in 4A races include Chris Hager of Cheyenne Central, Riverton’s Alex Jordan and Brody Koch, Koen Asper from Rock Springs, Jacob Olson of Evanston, Mason Zach from Thunder Basin, Green River’s Sam Dockter, and Keelan Stakes of Laramie.

The Tigers Look to Maintain Their Dominance Over the Competition in 3A
Lander will try to continue their unbelievable streak of 3A boys’ swimming and diving state titles. They’ve won 29 in a row. It’s the third-longest streak in the nation. If they reach No. 30 this weekend, it will be on the strength of their depth. The Tigers might not win an event, but they could still secure the team crown. Buffalo and Lyman are the top threats to the streak. Both of those teams possess some great power at the top of their lineups, but they might not have the overall numbers to halt the streak. It’s one of the most intriguing storylines of the weekend.
Class 3A does not have a returning state champion swimmer from 2025, so some new names will reach the top of the podium.
Individually, Everett Thomas, Quinn Byram, Asher Murray, and Jay Hahn from Buffalo, Gabe Hoover of Newcastle, Lyman’s Evan Bentley, Mason Aimone, Trey Buckner, Branson Busskohl, and Carter Plaisted of Lander are all contenders for event titles. A lot of it will come down to which events coaches enter their top swimmers. Also, who will hit their taper the best at the right time?
The only defending champion back in 2026 is in diving. That’s Bryson Laing from Cody. Bowman Sandall of Kemmerer is Laing's top challenger.
The next three days should be fun for fans to see which teams, swimmers, and divers rise to the top.
