PhotoFest: Laramie Sweeps Natrona in 4A Basketball
The basketball season is heading down the stretch and in 4A hoops on Friday, Laramie paid a visit to Casper to meet Natrona in boys and girls play. The boys' game featured two top 5 teams in our WyoPreps poll as Laramie came in ranked 2nd and Natrona 4th. The visiting Plainsmen jumped out to a 9-point lead after one-quarter of play but it was tightly contested after that. Laramie prevailed 57-44 and was led by Jaden Smith with 16 and Neil Summers chipped in a dozen. Summers has been sensational this season as he is averaging 17 points and 11 rebounds per game. Max Alexander has been a force offensively averaging 14 points a game. The Laramie boys finished the weekend with an 83-81 overtime win over Sheridan to improve to 15-2.
The Natrona boys zoomed to a 12-0 start the season but have lost 4 of their last 5. Colton Rogers has been the Mustang's leading scorer, averaging 15 points per game. He had 10 vs. Laramie with Neven Coleman adding 7. NC did finish the weekend with a 69-42 win over Cheyenne South to up their record of 13-4.
On the girls' side, Laramie outscored Natrona 17-9 in the 3rd quarter and held on to win 55-51. Kylin Shipman paced the Lady Plainsmen with 15 with Addison Forry contributing 13. Those two players are a big 1-2 punch for Laramie and Forry is 4A's 2nd leading scorer averaging 18 points a game along with 6 rebounds per contest. The Lady Plainsmen split their weekend games as they lost at Sheridan 52-36 to drop to 11-6 on the season.
It's been a struggle for the Natrona girls this season thanks in part to injuries. Brynn Sybrant is back in the line-up for the Fillies and she had 8 points vs. Laramie. Lexi Ransom led the way with 13 and she is NC's leading scorer this season throwing in 11 per contest. Natrona wrapped up the weekend with a 51-36 win over Cheyenne South to improve to 4-13 on the year.
