It's Mardi Gras, or, as it's known by many, Fat Tuesday, which is traditionally the day when people bulk up and prepare for Lent, which begins with Ash Wednesday. The Mardi Gras festivities have been a huge celebration that usually goes longer and bigger than just one day. Parties, parades, festivals, and beads have been associated with the celebration for centuries.

Another tradition around Mardi Gras is the consumption of rich, fatty, and sweet foods. Most of the food associated with the special day is Cajun and Creole, along with sweet treats like King Cake or fried beignets, all inspired by the Southern U.S.

Another sweet treat you may see on Fat Tuesday is the Paczki. Nope, it's not a Pack-Ski, Pazkey, or Pack-Zee-Key; it's pronounced POOHNCH-KEY. The Paczki is a rich, deep-fried Polish doughnut traditionally filled with fruit preserves, such as cream cheese or jam, and topped with powdered sugar or glaze, eaten in Poland on Fat Tuesday to use up rich ingredients that many people will give up for Lent.

Since today is Fat Tuesday, you have the once-a-year opportunity to grab a Paczki and a pint at Stahoos Brewery and Taproom in Capser. Jim and Heidi enjoy celebrating their heritage, whether it's Irish cuisine on St. Patrick's Day, German treats for Oktoberfest, or a sweet Paczki on Fat Tuesday, all paired with a pint of your favorite craft beer. Sharing the tradition of a Paczki and a pint is Stahoos way of showing off two of his favorite things, family traditions and beer. Jim says:

We have Paczki and pints. You comin in and buy a pint, and we'll give you a Paczki. That's our celebration and we look forward to people coming in for that.
