Pokes Ink Transfer Guard From Fort Lewis For Second Straight Year

LARAMIE -- The rebuild is underway.

For the second straight year, a guard from Texas via Fort Lewis College with just one season of eligibility could again play a major role in that.

Obi Agbim, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound Houston product who graduated from Rangeview High School in Aurora, Colo., is the first transfer to ink with the Cowboys this offseason.

Like his predecessor Akuel Kot, Agbim was named a First Team All-South Central Region player during his final season at the Division-II school in Durango. Both also earned First Team All-RMAC and conference tournament MVP honors during their final season in a Skyhawk uniform.

Agbim entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on March 26.

"Giving all glory to God," he penned on X, formerly known as Twitter. "My childhood goal has been to play basketball at the highest level. After a stellar season, and conversations with my family, coaches and team, I’ve decided to enter my name in the Transfer Portal with faith and hopes of achieving my goal."

Agbim, who began his collegiate career at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo., averaged 16 points, four rebounds and three assists per outing during his junior campaign. He also shot 44.3% from the field and connected on better than 35% of his attempts from beyond the arc while helping lead Fort Lewis to a second consecutive league tournament title.

In that championship tilt, Agbim netted a career-high 33 points in an 86-75 victory over Colorado Mesa. He capped his night going 10-of-12 from the floor, including drilling all four of his three-point attempts.

“Just considering it and going up to coaches, having a conversation with the team, it was really hard for me because I really love the situation here,” Agbim told Bryce Kelly of the Durango Herald. “So hitting the portal, I'm looking for a similar situation. I want to impact winning. With it being my last year, I'm not hitting the portal to be a reserve. I'm in the portal to actually help a team out and lead.”

Agbim reached double figures in 27 games and eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in early February. He also hit his 100th-career triple in January.

Kot, during his lone season in Laramie, averaged 14 points and a pair of assists per outing while starting all 32 games for the Cowboys. The former All-American hit double digits in scoring 25 times.

Wyoming has lost six players to the portal the offseason, most recently Missouri natives Cam Manyawu and Kael Combs, who figured to be building blocks toward the future. Brendan Wenzel, Caden Powell, Jacob Theodosiou and Jonas Sirtautas have also left the program.

The year prior, the Cowboys watched eight players leave via the portal, including the conference's preseason player of the year, Graham Ike.

Head coach Jeff Linder and Co. now have four available scholarships and a possible fifth if Kenny Foster doesn't come back for his final season in Laramie.

The transfer portal is open until May 1.
