A former interpreter at the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center in Casper was sentenced on one count of receiving child pornography, a federal judge ruled Tuesday.

Shawn Lee Wade will serve three years one month in prison and be on five years of supervised release after that, according to the sentence handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Alan Johnson in Cheyenne.

Terms of Wade's probation include registration as a sex offender, not possess firearms or alcohol, submit to drug testing and search warrants, and receive mental health and cognitive/behavioral treatment.

Johnson also ordered him to pay $5,000 to the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act of 2015, and $6,000 in restitution.

Wade was arrested in August, and pleaded guilty to one count of receipt of child pornography. A second identical count was dismissed as part of Wade's plea agreement in November.

He initially was in custody, and was later free on bond until Tuesday when he was taken into custody to begin serving his sentence.

Court records did not give specific information about the investigation, and the initial complaint remains sealed.

During his initial appearance in August, Wade told the court that he worked for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management for four years. The BLM operates the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center, 1501 N. Poplar St., where he was an interpreter.

The government regards child pornography as a crime of violence because it involves sometimes brutal assaults on very young children who cannot give consent to sexual activity.
