A Casper Police officer responded to a call Tuesday evening and with the help of an off-duty firefighter, pulled a teenager from a swiftly running river. High, swift current on the North Platte River:

Police Sgt. Steve Schulz said when Officer Dan Dundas arrived, the girl was already outside the safety rails on the bridge where F Street crosses the North Platte.

The girl went into the water before Officer Dundas could reach her. At about the same time, Casper Firefighter Craig Kidder was driving by and quickly parked his vehicle.

Kidder told his own daughter to wait in the car before going into the river, says a Casper Fire EMS release.

After removing his service belt, officer Dundas also rushed into the river. Kidder was able to hook an arm under the girl and Dundas got a hold of her shirt and the rescuers pulled the teenager to shore.

An ambulance arrived promptly on scene and once she was checked for injuries, the girl was released to her parents.
