Democrat Gary Trauner Announces Wyoming U.S. Senate Bid [VIDEO]
JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — Democrat Gary Trauner has announced he will run for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Wyoming Republican John Barrasso.
The 58-year-old Trauner is a Jackson Hole businessman who run unsuccessfully for U.S. House in 2006 and 2008, losing both times to former Reps. Barbara Cubin and Cynthia Lummis.
In announcing his candidacy Friday, Trauner said "D.C. is broken" and his goals include getting big money out of politics.
Trauner has been working as executive director of the Jackson Hole Lacrosse Club the last two years. He resigned the position when he announced his campaign.
Barrasso was appointed to the Senate in 2007 after Sen. Craig Thomas died in office. He was elected in 2008 to finish Thomas' term and re-elected in 2012.
