Cowgirls’ Six-Match Winning Streak Snapped by SDSU

LARAMIE -- The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team’s six-match winning streak came to a close Saturday with a 4-1 loss to San Diego State.

Wyoming drops to 10-9 overall on the season and 5-1 in Mountain West action.

The day began with a tightly-contested Doubles Point as the Aztecs prevailed to gain the early momentum in the match. SDSU won the tiebreak, 7-2 at No. 3 doubles to prevail with the 7-6 victory and earn the doubles. The Cowgirls got a win from the team of Ana Fernandez and Sophie Zehender at the No. 1 position.

In singles, Violetta Borodina was the lone winner for the Cowgirls as she picked up her second win of the weekend. Borodina won 6-2 and 6-4 at the No. 4 spot. The win was Borodina’s team-leading 11^th victory of the dual season.

The Cowgirls close their 2023 home slate with a 4-1 mark at 7220. Saturday was also Senior Day as Ana Fernandez and Maria Oreshkina were honored prior to the match. It was the last home match for the duo.

Next up, UW looks to begin another winning streak as it travels to Boise for a pair contests next weekend. The Cowgirls and host-Boise State will face off at 2 p.m., Saturday. Sunday Wyoming and Utah State will play at 10 a.m., in a neutral-site matchup.

Every state in our nation has chosen things that represent the state in one way or another to be official state things. Like a flower, or animal. Wyoming is no different.

The Equality State, or the Cowboy State, depending on which state slogan you want to go with, has a state flower. But did you know we also have a state tree and a state fish? Yes, we even have a state code.

To be an official thing, a member of the state legislature must write and submit a bill to the legislature declaring that a thing will be the official state thing. Then the legislature votes to pass the bill, or not, if it passes, the governor signs the bill into law and we have a new official state thing.
