Casper police on Thursday arrested a woman after the Wyoming Department of Family Services received a complaint about marijuana and heroin use in a home where two small children lived.

Hailey Stainbrook, 26, was booked into jail on charges of possession of meth, possession of marijuana and two counts child endangering with meth. She'll likely make her initial appearance in Natrona County Circuit Court at 2 p.m. Friday.

Charging papers say a Casper police officer responded to a home on North Wolcott shortly before 10:30 a.m. Thursday to assist DFS in checking on the welfare of the children in the home. DFS had received a complaint about drug use in the home by Stainbrook.

Two small children were seen in the residence when the officer arrived. Stainbrook allowed DFS inside the trailer, but initially asked the police officer to wait outside during the DFS interview.

The officer smelled burnt marijuana coming from the inside of the trailer, but before the officer could question Stainbrook about the odor, Stainbrook reportedly told the DFS case-worker that she had marijuana in a closet in her back bedroom.

Stainbrook reportedly said she tries not to smoke around the children. At that point, the officer asked to enter the trailer, and Stainbrook led him to her bedroom, where the odor of marijuana was reportedly much stronger.

The officer immediately saw two marijuana pipes on an end table next to the bed. Stainbrook also revealed a scale, packaged marijuana, a grinder, lighter and wrapping papers in a wooden box, according to court documents, as well as a meth pipe.

"It was clear that the children frequent Stainbrook's room as there were toys and diapers strewn throughout the room and a baby's toy within arm's reach of where the methamphetamine was located in the dresser," the officer wrote in his affidavit.

A friend of Stainbrook's arrived on scene, and was subsequently arrested on an unrelated warrant.

Police note that throughout the entire encounter with law enforcement and DFS, Stainbrook was "completely cooperative" and "appeared to want to work with all agencies involved."

Police took protective custody of the two children shortly after 11 a.m., and Stainbrook was arrested about half an hour later.

The children were released to their grandmother.

In total, about a quarter-ounce of marijuana was allegedly found, along with .04 grams of meth in a small jewelry bag. Straws used to snort meth were also reportedly found.
