“On Saturday, August 20, the Fort Laramie National Historic Site's annual Moonlight Tour entitled, "A Walk Through Time: Reliving our Past - Preserving our Future," will begin at 8:00 PM. Traditionally, the Moonlight Tour is one the Fort's most popular summer events. During this special program visitors will encounter many of the characters associated with the rich history of Fort Laramie.”
Visitors will initially meet at the 1874 Cavalry Barracks and then split into smaller groups. Tour guides will take groups through a series of lantern-lit vignettes depicting life at Fort Laramie in the 19th century.
“Originally established as a private fur trading fort in 1834, Fort Laramie evolved into the largest and best known military post on the Northern Plains before its abandonment in 1890. This “grand old post” witnessed the entire sweeping saga of America’s western expansion and Indian resistance to encroachment on their territories.”
Fort Laramie was a significant 19th century trading post and diplomatic site located at the confluence of the Laramie River and the North Platte River in the upper Platte River Valley Wyoming.
