Cheyenne Youth Alternatives Complex to be Named After Judge Jeffrey

The Cheyenne City Council passed a resolution Monday night to name the Youth Alternatives building complex located at 1328 Talbot Court the "Ronnald J. Jeffrey Youth Complex."

Jeffrey, who currently serves as the city's juvenile court judge, founded the Youth Alternatives Program in 1971 and retired in May of 2014.

"Under Ronn's direction the Office of Youth Alternatives has become a community-based program that both the citizens of Cheyenne and Laramie County have taken great pride and ownership of," said Youth Alternatives Assistant Director Jay Sullivan.

"Countless families and youth have been impacted through Youth Alternatives as the direct result of Ronn's vision and passion, which has contributed to the effort of helping to build a stronger, healthier community," Sullivan added.

Youth Alternatives, which operates under the city's jurisdiction, helps kids 5 to 18 years old with everything from normal growing up issues to emotional, behavioral and legal problems.

"The building may not be there forever, but Ronn will always have made his mark in this community," said former Lararmie County Commissioner Diane Humphrey. "I can't think of any better way to honor him than to have this building named for him."

Councilmen Richard Johnson and Dr. Mark Rinne voted against the resolution.
