Wyoming senior Branson Ashworth has been selected the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week for the second time this season.

Ashworth received the honor Monday from the league office after a 2-0 weekend with wins over opponents from Utah Valley and South Dakota State last weekend. Ashworth helped the No. 13 Wyoming Cowboys beat the Utah Valley Wolverines 27-6 Friday and the South Dakota State Jackrabbits 32-9 Sunday.

The senior at 165 pounds defeated No. 9 ranked Demetrius Romero of Utah Valley, 6-1, last Friday night. On Senior Day Sunday, Ashworth recorded a tech fall in the first period with a 16-0 win over Kelby Hawkins of South Dakota State.

Ashworth is now 29-3 on the season and has won 15 matches in a row. He has nine victories over ranked opponents this season and Sunday’s win was his 10th by tech fall this year.

He becomes just the third wrestler in the Big 12 to receive the weekly award multiple times this season. It’s the Cowboys’ fourth Wrestler of the Week accolade, which ties Northern Iowa for the most this year.

Wyoming (15-4) returns to action with their final dual of the season at Northern Colorado Sunday, Feb. 17. The dual begins at 2 p.m. in Greeley, CO.
