The Wyoming Medical Center's new four-story tower will open formally in September, hospital President and CEO Vickie Diamond said Tuesday, April 22.

Diamond gave her report at the monthly meeting of the Memorial Hospital of Natrona County Board of Trustees.

Diamond told the board of trustees about the progress with the kitchen, obstetrics ward and pharmacy. Some departments are beginning to move in their equipment, she added.

The hospital, she added, needs to prepare for an increasingly older patient population that will affect future building plans.

Trustees board chairwoman Serena Cobb said she was pleased to hear of the progress. "It's right on schedule," Cobb said.

The five-member board oversees the nonprofit Wyoming Medical Center Inc.'s lease of Natrona County's hospital assets located mostly in the 1200 and 1300 blocks of East Second and East Third Streets. The trustees, appointed by the Natrona County Commission, have the responsibility to ensure the nonprofit medical center maintains the value of the county's hospital assets.

Besides the work at the hospital's main campus, Diamond told the trustees the medical center is building a 12,000-square-foot clinic on the west side of Casper.

The new clinic will have three doctors and two nurse practitioners, and will open in March 2015, she said.
