A bill filed for the upcoming Wyoming Legislative session would allow hunters to wear fluorescent pink vests or other safety garments rather than the currently mandated fluorescent orange.

Wyoming hunters are required to wear the bright orange as a safety measure when hunting big or trophy game so that they can be seen by other hunters and not accidentally shot.

State law says the orange clothing can be a hat, shirt, jacket, coat, vest or sweater. If Senate File 61 becomes law, fluorescent pink could be worn on any of those garments instead of fluorescent orange.

The bill is sponsored by Senator Affie Ellis (R-Laramie County), Lisa Anselmi-Dalton (D-Sweetwater), Ogden Driskill (R-Crook/Campbell/Weston), Glenn Moniz (R-Albany), and Micheal Von Flatern (R-Campbell).

House sponsors include Rep. Jim Allen (R-Fremont), Landon Brown (R-Laramie), Jamie Flitner (R-Big Horn/Park), Jared Olsen (R-Laramie) and Albert Sommers (R-Sublette).

Supporters of the measure say they hope it would encourage more women to hunt in Wyoming.
