Wyoming Justices Uphold Kidnapping, Molestation Conviction

CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming Supreme Court has upheld a former carnival worker's conviction for sexually assaulting a child.

The justices say in an opinion released Monday that Joshua Winters' attorney wasn't ineffective and that a lower court didn't make certain errors.

Prosecutors say Winters molested a 5-year-old boy away after luring him away from a Casper bowling alley and taking him across a river.

A jury found Winters guilty of aggravated kidnapping, first-degree sexual abuse of a minor and second-degree sexual abuse of a minor. A judge sentenced him to 80 to 115 years in prison.

Winters' attorney before the Supreme Court, Keith Nachbar, didn't immediately return a phone message Monday seeking comment.
