Wyoming Highway Patrol Denies Gender Discrimination Claims
CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming Highway Patrol has denied allegations that officials retaliated against the agency's first female police dog handler because she was a woman.
The patrol's lawyers say officials acted legitimately when they reassigned Delsa Sanderson from her former position as a dog handler. The lawyers also wrote in a court filing to dismiss the case that Sanderson did not file the suit within 300 days of the alleged discrimination, which is required.
Sanderson alleged she was reassigned because she complained about poor treatment by her colleagues, rather than for misconduct alleged by her supervisors. She also alleges she was subject to a hostile environment and discriminated against because of her gender.
Sanderson's attorney and the patrol's attorney were not available for comment on Monday.
