Wyoming Federal Judges Sentence Nine for Bank Fraud, Other Crimes
Two women arrested in northern Colorado for stealing checks and committing bank fraud in Laramie County were among those sentenced recently by Wyoming federal judges, according to the Wyoming U.S. Attorney General's Office.
U.S. District Court Judge Alan Johnson sentenced Jennifer Suzanne Coleman and Alexis Marie Johnson for their roles in a conspiracy to remove checks, debit cards and other materials from stolen mail in Laramie County, open a bank account in another person's name, and deposit stolen checks into that and other accounts without their respective account holders' knowledge.
Coleman and Johnson also used blank checks stolen from the mail to make retail purchases, and used a stolen debit card to make retail purchases, according to their indictments.
They had no fixed residences, but they were arrested in Fort Collins, Colo.
Coleman, 29, received one-and-a-half years of imprisonment for conspiracy to commit bank fraud, to be followed by four years of supervised release.
Johnson, 26, received one-and-a-half years imprisonment for conspiracy to commit bank fraud and possession of stolen mail. She will serve each sentence concurrently, to be followed by three years of supervised release for each count.
They also were ordered to pay restitution in an amount to be determined.
The U.S. Post Office Investigative Service investigated these cases and a related case involving Dawn Wheeler.
Johnson also sentenced Monty Englehart, 45, of Menard, Ill., for failure to register as a sex offender. Englehart was arrested in Rock Springs. He received time served to be followed by five years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Marshals Service investigated this case.
Chief Federal District Court Judge Scott W. Skavdahl sentenced Steven Thomas Parrish, 48, of Layton, Utah, for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Parrish was arrested in Montana. He received time served and was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $250 and a $100 special assessment.
The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation investigated this case.
Skavdahl also sentenced Rafael Rodriguez, 44, of Aloha, Ore., for felon in possession of a firearm. Rodriguez was arrested in Laramie. He received six years five months of imprisonment, to be followed by three years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay a $200 fine and a $100 special assessment.
The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated this case.
U.S. District Court Judge Nancy Freudenthal sentenced Sara Kristina Blakeman, 55, of Evanston for theft from an organization receiving federal funds. Blakeman was arrested in Uinta County. She received four years nine months of imprisonment, to be followed by three years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay $605,590.31 in restitution and a $100 special assessment.
The Evanston Police Department and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services investigated this case.
Freudenthal also sentenced three men for illegal re-entry of a previously deported alien into the United States:
- Josue Echeverria-Lopez, 31, was arrested in Natrona County. He received six months of imprisonment and was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment.
- Ubaldo Becerril-Sosa, 29, of Queretaro, Mexico, arrested in Casper. He received time served plus 10 days to allow for deportation proceedings and was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment.
- Estibe Garcia-Perez, 34, of Guatemala City, Guatemala, was arrested in Casper. He received one year one day of imprisonment, to be followed by three years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment.
