UW Researchers Attend Coal Conference In China

LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — Researchers from the University of Wyoming will address critical issues of advanced coal use at a conference next week in China.

The 2012 International Advanced Coal Technologies Conference is scheduled for June 3-7.

The conference, which the UW School of Energy Resources is co-sponsoring, also will draw American and Chinese policymakers and coal industry representatives from both countries.

In addition, researchers with a wide range of expertise in advanced coal technology, carbon capture and sequestration, and carbon dioxide use are expected to attend.

UW School of Energy Resources Director Mark Northam says the goal of the conference is to find ways to add value to Wyoming coal through new technology, and to find new markets for its use.

Along with UW staff, 12 UW students will attend the conference.
