UPDATE: Cheyenne Man Arrested After Allegedly Shooting Police Officer
A 27-year-old Cheyenne man was arrested Friday night after police say he shot an officer in the foot.
Officer Kevin Malatesta says police were called to a domestic disturbance at Joseph Jacquez's residence around 5:20 p.m., after his wife called 911 to report he had hit her several times and kicked her in the thigh.
"Officers were informed the suspect was armed and the officers were carrying their rifles as they responded," said Malatesta.
When officers tried to apprehend Jacquez, who had approached them outside of the house, he grabbed one of the officers and retreated into the house.
"Officers followed Jacquez into the residence and attempted to detain Jacquez," said Malatesta. "During the struggle, Jacquez manipulated a CPD rifle which an officer was carrying by pulling on it and firing it."
"The rifle was fired several times and another officer, Lt. Keslar, was shot in the foot," Malatesta added. "Nobody else was injured during the encounter."
Lt. Keslar was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released.
Jaquez was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery, disarming a police officer and aggravated assault on a police officer.
