Julian Lopez To Receive Mental Evaluation In Connection To Gun Incident
An Evansville man facing charges alleging that he was hearing voices and pulled a gun on someone, will get a mental evaluation.
Julian Lopez has pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of mental illness, to one charge of aggravated assault and battery, by way of threatening with a drawn deadly weapon, and one charge of possession of a deadly weapon.
Investigators with the Evansville Police Department say in October, officers responded to the 100 block of Western Avenue, for a report of a man threatening to kill everyone, for making him hear voices.
One person said Lopez thought he was making him hear voices, and Lopez later pulled out a gun, but when the magazine fell out, the contact fled the area.
Lopez was later found, and a firearm was discovered in his vehicle.
He declined to talk to police about the earlier incident.
Lopez is free on $3,000 bond awaiting trial and a court ordered mental evaluation, and could face up to 10 years in prison on aggravated assault charge, and up to five year in prison on the possession of a deadly weapon charge if convicted.
