A federal judge has granted a second continuance in the case against a Cheyenne man accused of killing a 19-year-old, torching his SUV and dumping his body in a reservoir southeast of Cheyenne.

Armando Ramirez-Serna appeared in custody before U.S. Magistrate Judge Kelly H. Rankin this (Friday) morning.

"We're engaging in conversations in hopes of coming to a resolution," said Ramirez-Serna's attorney, Tracy Hucke, who once again asked the court to continue her client's preliminary hearing.

Rankin granted the request, resetting Ramirez-Serna's preliminary hearing for July 3 at 9 a.m.

The defense didn't contest detention, meaning Ramirez-Serna will remain in custody pending further court proceedings.

Ramirez-Serna is charged with interference with commerce by robbery, use and discharge of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence causing death, use and discharge of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence and use of fire to commit misprision of a felony.

He's accused of shooting Justin Robinson in the head while trying to rob him of a half-pound of marijuana.

Robinson's body was found in a reservoir on the Wyoming Hereford Ranch on Nov. 26. His burnt SUV was found nearby.

Ramirez-Serna could spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted.
