Cat Rescued After Getting Stuck for Days in Cheyenne Storm Drain
Bacon grease and drains don't mix, but that's exactly what it took to get a stuck hairball out of a drain in downtown Cheyenne earlier this week.
The removal process started on Tuesday when Animal Control Officers Wagner and Dryden were called to the 1600 block of Capitol Avenue for reports of a kitten stuck in a storm drain.
"Upon arrival, witnesses stated the kitten had been stuck in the storm drain since Oct. 7," said Wagner.
After hours of the furry fugitive avoiding capture in the drain pipes, the decision was made to set a trap in the drain.
"Throughout the day, the trap was monitored, but (our) attempts were unsuccessful," said Wagner. "Bacon grease was placed on the trap as a final capture technique at 9:30 p.m."
Wagner says all the time and effort put into saving the kitten paid off when the cat was caught in the trap the following morning.
"Thanks to the help of Cheyenne Fire Rescue (CFR) and the Board of Public Utilities (BOPU), (we were) safely able to remove the kitten from the drain and transport it to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter for a medical evaluation," said Wagner.
