WATCH: Rescue Of 4 Bull Elk Stuck In Montana Ice
If one HUGE bill elk were to fall through the thin ice in a pond, it would be hard enough to rescue it. What do you do if four fall through at the same time?
That's what happened up in Montana, and people had no idea how to save them. That's a lot of elk.
Officers and Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks wardens received a call at about 8 am. There was a lot of head scratching until finally officials utilized a helicopter to assist after ice-breaking materials. That helped a little. But the elk were still not moving
A Will Jacobs Central Helicopter Co. helicopter arrived around 3:30 p.m. The only thing he could think to do was to scare the elk into saving themselves. So he came down low right by them and maneuvered in such a way as to scare them back to shore.
Those bull elk were big enough to break the thin ice as they forced their way to safety.
At this point, one might wonder if the elk had any idea that the humans were trying to help them.
Eventually, they were through the ice and back up on shore, safe and sound, though probably feeling the effects of having stood in that cold water all for so many hours.
The four trotted up onto shore and across a street, then into the woods. At least the humans knew that they had done something worthwhile that day.
After a day's worth of hard effort, you can rest easy knowing that your daily news is not always bad. Nor are people.
