LARAMIE -- The Wyoming Cowboys could not slow down the hot shooting Boise State Broncos in a 92-72 loss on Saturday evening inside the Arena-Auditorium in Laramie. The Broncos shot 67 percent from the field in the opening half, as the Pokes fall to 13-14 on the season and 6-8 in conference play.

“We lost to a very good team, and we knew that coming in,” UW head coach Jeff Linder said. “When there are 140 possessions in a game, and it is the team that plays with the best effort that is going to win. For the guys moving forward we must have the ability to sit down and get some stops. To guard at this level is just a matter of guarding your guy. But we know it doesn’t get any easier. We are disappointed, but we must move forward.”

The Pokes shot 50 percent from the field, but the Broncos finished at 54 percent for the contest. Boise knocked down 10 three pointers in the game with six from the Cowboys. Boise State held a 43-19 advantage on the glass.

The Cowboys were led offensively by Sam Griffin with his 16 points has now scored in double-figures in 22 games this season. Mason Walters added 15 points for his 12th game in double-figures this season. Kael Combs added 12 points for his first career game in double-figures. Cam Manyawu added eight points and nine rebounds.

The Broncos hit their first three shots of the contest to take a 6-2 lead in the first 90 seconds of the contest. The Pokes would later get back-to-back-to-back buckets to tie the game at 9-9 at the 15:50 mark thanks to a three pointer from Griffin.

A corner three-pointer by the Broncos and layup made it a 19-12 game in the first seven-plus minutes, as Boise State went 8-of-10 from the field. Another three-pointer by the Broncos made it a 26-16 game nearly halfway through the first half.

The Pokes would cut the Bronco lead to five-points on a Wenzel three-pointer for a 32-27 contest with under seven minutes left in the opening frame. Griffin made it a two-point game with a three to cap a 6-0 run with five minutes left in the half.

Boise State went on a 7-0 run to make it a 39-32 game. Max Rice hit a three-pointer and Tyson Degenhart added an and-one play for a 45-34 lead with just over two minutes left in the half. Boise State would take a 51-36 lead into the break.

Walters scored six points in the first 80 seconds of the second half for a 54-42 contest. But the Broncos would push the lead to 17-points at 59-42 two minutes later.

Boise State would hit five-straight field goals and make it a 69-45 game with under 14 minutes left.

The Broncos would push the lead to as much as 28 points. Combs added a pair of buckets highlighted by a slam for a 77-53 game with nine minutes left. Walters added a triple for a 77-58 game.

Boise State would build the lead up once again and took the contest 92-72.

The Broncos were led by Degenhart with 22 points going 8-of-10 from the field. Omar Stanley added 19 points.

The Cowboys return to action on Tuesday hosting UNLV in the Arena-Auditorium for a 7 p.m.
