FORT COLLINS, Colo., – The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis squad opened its busy weekend of action Friday with an impressive day one at the Colorado State Jon Messick Invitational.

The first day featured two rounds of doubles play and one round of singles action. UW went near-perfect on the day, winning a total of nine contests.

Wyoming had a great day on the doubles side of play, going 5-0 with its three tandems. The duo of Jeselle Ante and Noesjka Brink went 2-0 together. The team opened the tournament with a 6-2 win over the team of Ellen Puzak and Anya Nelson of Colorado. In their second match of the day, Ante and Brink came out on top 7-6 (7-4) over Beata Havlickova and Sorcha Caves from South Dakota.

The tandem of Nikol Dobrilova and Adel Ismagulova also picked up a pair of doubles wins. The two began with an impressive 6-0 win over Weber State’s Dylan Lolofie and Jessica Hill. The second win came 6-3 over Utah State’s Zeynep Ozturk and Lisa Kung.

The Cowgirls’ third doubles team of Serina Abriola and Lucia Malinak won a thriller in their lone matchup of Friday, defeating Sydney Schnell and Sicely Ferreira of Weber State, 7-6 (10-8).

In singles play, the Brown & Gold also played solid, winning four singles matches on the day. Abriola gave the Cowgirls a three-set win in her singles opener. Abriola defeated Weber’s Ferreira, 4-6, 6-4 and 6-4. Brink picked up a convincing win to begin her draw, defeating Utah State’s Magdalena Nunez 6-0 and 6-2. Ismagulova won 6-3, 6-4 over CU’s Anya Nelson while Malinak also picked up a straight-sets victory, defeating Hanna Haber of Metro State, 6-1 and 6-4.

UW continues action Saturday at the Messick Invite. Sophie Zehender also begins her pre-qualifying play Saturday at the ITA All-Americas in Cary, N.C.
