With the 2016 season only days away, fans will be seeing the impact of in-state recruits with the Wyoming Cowboy football program.

Two of those homegrown Pokes hail from Casper. Sophomore tight end Josh Harshman and redshirt freshman linebacker Logan Wilson. Both were part of the 2015 recruiting class for head coach Craig Bohl, and both are expected to play significant roles this fall.

Both have had to endure position changes, but both want to be in Laramie.

Harshman appeared in 10 games last season with a pair of catches for 39 yards, which included a 26-yard touchdown grab versus New Mexico. He’s happy to be wearing that ‘Brown and Gold’ uniform.

For Wilson, he’s changed positions not once, but twice. After playing corner in high school and being recruited as a safety, Wilson made the switch to weak-side linebacker during the spring. He’s the starter for the opener Saturday night ahead of a true freshman.

Coach Bohl is pleased that these two are showing the way for others in the Cowboy state that might want to be part of the Wyoming program in the future.

There is a total of eight in-state players on the Cowboys game day roster. Beside Harshman and Wilson, are tight end Austin Fort of Gillette, who returned the program at the start of last spring semester. He’s drawn some praise from Coach Bohl during fall camp. Freshman fullback Zach Taylor also hails from Gillette. On the offensive line there’s Paul Schwab of Afton, a redshirt freshman, who’s listed as the back-up left tackle. Senior Eli Moody of Lovell is another offensive lineman. There’s also receiver Isaac Jefferson, who is from Rawlins and linebacker Ben Wisdorf from Cheyenne.

In addition, there are two preferred walk-ons who practiced during fall camp, plus seven more walk-ons from in-state that joined at the beginning of school. Not to mention Jackson running back Theo Dawson, who is serving a mission for the next two years.

Put it all together, and there’s certainly been an uptick in ‘Wyomingites’ as part of the Cowboy football program.
