Governor Mead is ordering that the U.S. and Wyoming flags be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset for 15 days starting, October 6, 2012 in memory of Treasurer Meyer.

Treasurer Meyer took office on January 2, 2007. He served as Secretary of State from 1999 until assuming his duties as State Treasurer and was Wyoming Attorney General from 1986 to 1995. Governor Mead will send a letter notifying the chairman of the Republican Party of the passing of the State Treasurer which will trigger the processes to name his successor.

Governor Mead said,

“This is a tremendous loss for all of Wyoming. Carol and I send our deepest condolences to Joe’s wife Mary and their children. Joe cared deeply about this state and its people and always put Wyoming first.  His legacy of service is unmatched.  He will be remembered for his wisdom and his wit.  I feel most fortunate to have had his counsel and friendship.”

Services are under the direction of Schrader  Funeral Home in Cheyenne. Funeral arrangements are pending.
