With the football opener for the Wyoming Cowboys this Saturday night, the Wyoming Department of Transportation wants travelers to be mindful of the highway construction in a few places on the way to Laramie.

Slow down in construction zones:

“Speeds that are lowered here and there, we’re working on some bridges, but, you know, people just slow down for them when they’re supposed to and leave early enough, and it should go fairly smoothly.”

Ross Doman, WYDOT spokesman, says the most impactful construction zone is along Interstate 80 between Rawlins and Laramie, and it’s only a 15-mile stretch with the speed limit reduced to 65 miles per hour.

Construction on I-80:

“The speed limit’s lowered to 65 mph from 245 to 259, so that’s about 15 miles, so really, you’re going 10 miles slower for about 15 miles. And then, coming over from, if you’re between Cheyenne and Laramie, there’s a couple bridges there that we’re working on and there, slow down for less than a mile.”

There’s also some construction in the Wheatland cutoff to Laramie.

Construction on WY 34:

“Sybille Canyon, WYO 34, it’s going through some reconstruction. That speed, actually, slows to 30 mph for about six miles, and honestly that won’t impact their travel that much.”

And for those who are driving up from south of Laramie.

Construction on US 287:

“US 287 south of Laramie, it’s just a bridge that we’re lowering some speed, so the number-one thing is we want people to buckle up and pay attention to the speed limits and if they drink at the game, to get a designated driver to make it home alive.”

The Wyoming Cowboys will be playing Weber State Saturday evening at War Memorial Stadium, pregame show starts at 6, the game starts at 7.
