A Cody man is dead following a head-on collision in west central Wyoming.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol says just before 5pm on Friday, January 17th,  52-year old David Hoyt of Arizona, was driving westbound on Wyoming State Highway 28 over the South Pass.

Hoyt's vehicle went off the right side of the roadway, and while overcorrecting, he crossed into the opposite lane of travel, and collided head on with another vehicle driven by 75-year old Gerald Haugen of Cody, who was later pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the collision.

Haugen's passenger, 76-year old Georgianna Haugen was extricated from the vehicle and flown via helicopter to Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, for treatment of her injuries.

The highway was closed for about three hours.

Hoyt has been cited by the patrol for driving while under suspension, failure to maintain his vehicle within a single lane, and no proof of insurance.

The results of the investigation have been turned over to the Fremont County Attorney's Office, which will determine if any additional charges will be filed against Hoyt.
