A Cheyenne man is facing up to 115 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of sexually abusing his granddaughter.

71-year-old Bernard Homan was convicted of five counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor and one count of third-degree sexual abuse of a minor on Tuesday in Laramie County District Court.

District Attorney Jeremiah Sandburg says evidence presented at trial showed Homan had sexual contact with the girl and exposed himself to her.

"It (happened in) multiple locations around Laramie County," said Sandburg. "She was between the ages of 9 and 10 when these events occurred."

Homan faces a maximum penalty of up to 20 years for each second-degree count and up to 15 years for the third-degree count.

Sandburg says it will likely be two to three months before Homan is sentenced.

"It takes the Department of Probation and Parole about two to three months to do those presentence investigations," said Sandburg. "Once the report is done, sentencing usually occurs about two weeks afterwards."
