A 25-year-old Cheyenne man is facing 25 years to life in prison after allegedly trying to steal a pickup and shooting at a man.

Police say they were called to the 1000 block of Bent Avenue around 4:40 p.m. Monday after Charles Tarman observed Jordon Lucero and his friend, 52-year-old Steven Brown, trying to steal a Ford F-250.

When Brown realized Tarman was watching them, he and Lucero got into a Dodge Durango driven by Brown and left the area.

Court records say when Tarman began following the Durango, Lucero fired a shotgun at him, hitting his front, driver's side fender.

Police caught up with the Durango a short time later, and Brown and Lucero were taken in for questioning.

Brown reportedly told police that while they were following Tarman, Lucero grabbed his shotgun and told him to get next to Tarman stating, "I gotta get him." Brown said Lucero then fired the shotgun. Lucero denied any involvement in the shooting.

The Laramie County District Attorney's Office on Wednesday charged Lucero with attempted second-degree murder and attempted aggravated burglary.

He is currently being held in the Laramie County jail on a $500,000 cash bond awaiting a July 26 preliminary hearing.

The DA's Office also issued a warrant for Brown, but as of Thursday afternoon it hadn't been returned.
